Virginia only has one player participating in the NFL combine, but he?s a big one as offensive tackle Oday Aboushi has a chance to crack the first round and make a whole lot of money at his biggest job interview of his life.
A two-year starter for the Cavaliers, Aboushi is a better run blocker than he is against the pass, but is above-average at both. He won?t be confused for a road-grading tackle like D.J. Fluker and needs to hit the weight room to add strength and weight, but at 6-6 and 310-pounds has the frame to add the necessary bulk and already plays with a nasty disposition as evidenced by the heavy punch he delivers to defensive lineman.
Because of his physical nature and aggression, I think he ends up on the strong side and starts his career at right tackle, but with more seasoning could be moved to the blind side because he has adequate lateral agility and will surprise you with his athleticism. Aboushi shows a good knack for the game and his field awareness is one of his strengths, so he should be able to handle picking up complex NFL stunts and blitzes.
For those that haven?t seen what Aboushi did during his career at Virginia, he had a bit of a coming out party at the Senior Bowl when he looked like one of the best tackles at the game when he consistently dominated projected first-round Ezekial Ansah of BYU among others during the week in Mobile.
If Aboushi can impress during the interviews, show off his athleticism during the agility drills, put up 225-pounds during the bench press 30 times and run a 40-yard dash around the 5.10 mark, then Aboushi should crack the bottom of the first round and the Indianapolis Colts picking at No. 24 could use him to protect franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.
