November 13, 2012???Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced the return of Desiree Peterkin-Bell as the Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships for the Mayor?s Office. Last June, she resigned to become Senior Advisor for communications in Pennsylvania for the Obama for America campaign. With her return to the Nutter Administration, she will maintain the same portfolio as prior to her departure, including long-term planning and oversight of the Office?s communications strategy, the City?s social media presence, coordinated communications with external stakeholders and transparency in City government.
?I am very pleased that Desiree Peterkin-Bell has agreed to my request to return to the Administration and I look forward to her continuing the excellent work that she achieved during her almost two years of public service here in Philadelphia,? said Mayor Nutter. ?Philadelphia faces significant opportunities and challenges in the coming years, and Desiree will play a major role as a senior advisor helping move the city forward as we communicate in the areas of public safety, job creation, improving educational performance and making local government more efficient and transparent.?
Ms. Peterkin-Bell, who will assume her duties on Nov. 19 at the same salary level as before, said, ?My passion has always been public service and I?ve always been driven by purpose and not position.? I am very much looking forward to continuing in the purpose that led me back to Philadelphia in the first place.? I?ve had the distinct pleasure of serving as the Senior Advisor for President Barack Obama?s historic reelection efforts for the Keystone state. It was an amazing experience. I am honored to again serve Mayor Nutter, his administration and the citizens of the City of Philadelphia.?
Prior to joining the Nutter Administration, Ms. Peterkin-Bell served as Director of Communications to Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory A. Booker. Before that, she was Senior Director and Vice President of Government Affairs at the New York City Marketing Development Corp. and Supervising Legislative Representative in the administration of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
